Review: room with a view in Barcelona

It would make sense to stay at Hilton Diagonal Mar during summer because of two reasons. First; you can avoid some of the crowd because it is located outside the centre of Barcelona and second; they have a beach club, Purobeach that apparently is very popular. However our stay was in the winter and the beach club was obviously closed. I think it is closed during the whole winter from October to March. I was a bit disappointed that apart from Purobeach they don't have an indoor pool for winter season.

There are two options to get to the heart of Barcelona from the hotel. You can take the L4 line metro from El Maresme / Forum station and get off at Jaume I which is right next to the Gothic Quarters. Travel time is about 20min. Other option is the H16 bus that will take you to Placa Catalunya in 45min. I used both and though it was convenient. For shopping the hotel is perfect, right across the street you will find a HUGE shopping mall called Diagonal Mar.The beach is just 10min walk away too.

I booked directly with the hotel and got three options standard room, deluxe and family. I chose deluxe but due to my husbands Hilton honors membership we ended up getting a King Family room as an upgrade. I was disappointed because the deluxe room would have had two windows and one in the bathroom too, plus most of the deluxe's were recently renovated. I hope they will refurbish rest of the rooms too because they are clearly in need of it. Well, we stayed in the family room because it was large, on the 13th floor and had a nice view; both city and sea and we could see part of the Torre Agbar from our room too. My room tip is here: try to get a room in the upper floors and ask for a refurbished room.

Breakfast had a lot of variety and service in the hotel was personal and delightful, (except for one lady in the reception) just as you would expect from a Hilton. Room service was expensive and took long to arrive but portions were really big.

Service: 4 / 5
Room: 3 / 5

Food & drink: 5 / 5 (based on breakfast only)
