Review: go for the garden not the hotel

Bernstorff Castle is located close to Copenhagen, about 20min train trip away. The nearest train station was about 15min walking distance from the hotel. We took the train to The Tivoli and it was quite convenient. I think it was betterto takethe train than car to city center Copenhagen. The property itself is on a beautiful setting, surrounded by a large garden and a park. Perfect for kids in the summer time to run around or for guests with dogs (which apparently are allowed in the hotel because we had one running in our feet at breakfast).
Rooms are located in a separate building next to the castle. Reception and breakfast are to be found in the main building (castle). As the area is so vast, parking is free for hotel guestsand so is WiFi. I booked through Booking.com on the day of arrival but felt I got a reasonable rate (DK 1195) for one night.

We arrived seemingly late as there was only one person working in the whole place. The lady in the reception was nice but she had some difficulties in getting us a baby cot although we had informed them before hand. Also when I needed to heat up some baby food we had difficulties in finding a suitable dish suitable to put the food can in a hot water.

Rooms was clean, comfortable, spacious and modern - yet pretty basic. I doubt none of the rooms have a bathtub, just showers. However it was quiet and we all slept pretty well. Next morning the breakfast hall was quiet at already at 9:30am. I was about to enter the castle with our pram but this was not allowed. I was reminded that we were in a castle! Oh well... This is the case in many places in Denmark actually - no trolleys allowed! I wouldn't say Bernstorff Castle is very child friendly.
I wish we had had more time to explore the surrounding garden and park.
