Review: Family fun in the pools of Aulanko

We had a really bad start. What made this even worse was that I had heard so much good about the property before hand. What happened at check-in? Well, we had to change rooms 3 times! I had booked 2 interconnecting rooms from the chain's OWN website. When we received the first rooms they weren't interconnecting at all. I wentback to the reception and explained I had booked interconnecting rooms. They had NO record of this but had interconnecting rooms available so all was good. NOT! The next rooms we entered were infact interconnecting but not with each other. Oh my...I thought walking again into the reception because the phone in the room didn't work. Now I got to speak to the manager (of some kind) in the reception. He was of course sorry, checked the rooms we now had and changed one of them to an interconnecting room with the other. Okay, all was good now when it comes to the rooms. However he offered no compensation, no restaurant coupons, no nothing for all the trouble we had. And of course we were on a schedule having booked spa treatments half an hour from the arrival. What added even more to the bad start was that the lady who initially checked us in explained nothing about the property. Simply "walk straight and then left"... and handed keys. For a first timer to a huge property with lots of activities this was bad service. We got a little lost already finding the first rooms.

Rooms at Cumulus Resort Aulanko are slightly out-dated. They are spacious and come with a balcony but no carpets and lots of worn-out wooden details make them look dull and old. Bathrooms were renovated and were also spacious. They have a good selection of rooms but I was slightly disappointed that interconnecting rooms all came with twin beds. However after a request and a reminder (!!) housekeeping did come to put the beds togerher and our baby was able to sleep in between us <3 And they had no interconnecting rooms in higher cathegory.

The Eden's Eva Spa was great! Good selection of treatments, affordable prices, good service and location in-house. Only the relaxation / waiting area could have been a bit more comfortable. I had a facial and a massage. The massage was quite rough for my liking but I know most people would like it.

The pool area was the best part! It was bigger than an average in-house pool/spa and had many different kinds of pools. In most pools the water was +35/37 Celsius so a lot warmer than regular pool water. What was nice that they also had the outdoor pool open althought it was December. They had two different types of saunas attached to the shower room so ladies and men had their own. The baby / kids pool was also super nice for the little ones. AND everywhere was clean!

The restaurant was just your average hotel restaurant. They had a Christmas buffet which was quite expensive (40€) but then again they probable have people coming from outside too. Service was below average here.

Cumulus Resort Aulanko is not far from Hämeenlinna, and thus you can consider staying here even if your main destination is Hämeenlinna. They also had a nightclub with relatively good selection of live artists and an outdoor action park which was not open at this time of the year. We must re-visit during summer :-)
