Review: Take a swim in the pools, forget about staying the night

Welcome to the 80's! That was all I could say when entering the room at Spa hotel Cumulus Resort Eden. First of all the room door was light green. Then the room had this cork pattern vinyl flooring. Wooden writing table and TV stand where in good condition but so out-of-style. Headboard was this wooden framed jute panel. No quilts or bed throws on the beds. Orange shaded wall lamps and ceiling lamp with a fan, where do you see those anymore? Blue and white striped bed skirts and curtains that did not match with the rest of the room.

Seriously, who pays over hundred euros a night for a room that was so out-dated. Unfortunately us :-( In this modern country of ours that is a forerunner in many things, the hotel world has stayed in the 80's. I wasn't able to find information when the hotel was actually built but I have a strong feeling it has been in the 1980's. That's when Finland's economy was flourishing and many hotels, resorts and spa's where built. According to the hotel's own website the property was renovated in 2004. I wonder what was done....

Enough about the room! The main thing was the pool area. We liked the pool area that was really big. They had many water slides, an outdoor pool, 3 jacuzzis and kids pool. The pool had also waves every hour. The kids pool was small but still had two water slides which was extra nice. Some palm trees and cactuses added a nice touch to it, although there could have been more flowers and plants. Both shower rooms had 3 saunas; a scented sauna (Turkish steam room), a tropical sauna and traditional sauna. Being a sauna person, I really liked thisand visited them all. My favorite was the tropical sauna :-) The outdoor pool was naturally accessible from indoors but for summer the open the area around it and guests can relax on the sun loungers while children can have fun on the playground next to the pool. Now I rather slipped into the hot jacuzzi (+37 Celsius) after taking a swim in the outdoor pool (+27 Celsius. Also worth mentioning is Bahia, the pool side restaurant that served drinks (also alcohol) and finger food.

The location of Cumulus Resort Eden is practical. Only 15 minutes drive from Tampere and less than a kilometer from the main road. The hotel enjoys unobstructed view of lake
Pyhäjärvi but there were no guided walking paths around the hotel. I was a little surprised about this as I thought it would be nice to walk along the lake. In fact right next to the hotel was rather high residence buildings. They did have a childrens' playground and a small frisbee golf course.

Service was pretty good, even in the restaurant where we had dinner. The Cumulus Resort Eden has two restaurants, Esmeralda is the main dinner (and breakfast) restaurant and Rosalina served as a lobby restaurant with burgers and pizza on the menu. I have had better food even in shopping malls but it wasn't bad either. However do not stay overnight to eat at the hotel. Also note that there were no restaurants near the hotel in Nokia (except one pizza service!).
