Review: Wet and fun at renovated Kalev Spa

This was my second stay at Kalev Spa hotel in Tallinn. Nine years ago the hotel didn't leave any special feelings but this time I felt that we need to come back here. The hotel has been recently renovated with a good taste. Rooms and ensuites had all new materials from ceiling to floor, the water park was so much more than one 50meter long pool and the general areas had a new look and feel too. This time I also gave more attention to the location and have to comment it is excellent. Right beside a lush park but just a 5 minutes walk from the old town Tallinn.

We made a booking directly with the hotel and booked a family package which included
  • family suite for 4
  • breakfast
  • coloring books for the kids
  • dinner
  • unlimited use of the waterpark
  • morning water aerobics
  • welcome drink for the kids
  • salt room
  • bathrobes (well, only for the adults)
  • free WiFi and check-in from 3pm, check-out at 12 noon
We found this offer by chance (so never forget to check the offers on the hotels website) and thought the price 170€ was reasonable. One night was clearly not enough as we didn't have time for the water aerobics or the salt room :-( Those have to wait until our next visit! As well as the Health and beauty services the hotel offers.

The waterpark was great! It had 4 different pools of which 2 were for little kids. It doesn't sound much but each pool was somehow special. The long relaxation pool had, I think 10 different water massages and a temperature of 35 Celsius. Then there was another pool that had a circulating water, a little kids pool with a slide and temperature of 35 Celsius and normal kids pool. The waterpark also a steam room and a Finnish Sauna and on top of that both men's and women's shower areas has 2 Saunas and cold water rainshowers. Apart from all this the waterpark included 4 modern water slides (one with selection of music and lights inside!!) and the 50 meter Olympic size pool and a separate room and pool for the water aerobics. There's also a small bar that sells drinks and snacks. All of us loved the waterpark!

Other than the waterpark, we found the food ok. Both dinner and the breakfast was a buffet. Rooms was ok for our needs as well. It could have been a little bigger but since we only stayed for one night the size wasn't a big issue. The only negative thing was service. We weren't really given all the information we needed at check-in and I didn't feel especially welcomed.
